Leaky gut occurs when the intestinal barrier becomes inflamed or damaged, allowing substances that normally remain inside the digestive tract to pass through the gut lining.

Several factors can contribute to gut barrier dysfunction, including a highly processed diet, excess alcohol, chronic stress, inadequate sleep, and individual food sensitivities.

When the immune system and gut are functioning well, the body has remarkable ability to repair and maintain the intestinal barrier. However, ongoing inflammation and immune imbalance may contribute to a variety of symptoms.

Possible symptoms and associated concerns include:

  • Digestive issues

  • Bloating and food sensitivities

  • Fatigue

  • Brain fog

  • Headaches

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Skin changes

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Anxiety or mood changes

  • Weight changes

  • Inflammatory and autoimmune conditions

Supporting gut health starts with the basics: nourishing whole foods, adequate protein and fiber, quality sleep, stress management, hydration, and reducing highly processed foods and excess alcohol.
